Certified organic area by region and line of production

Hectares under organic certification in each region and line of production, as reported by the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) in its annual table of certified organic area.

How to read this figure

Method

area[region, line, year] = cell of the table «Superficie Orgánica Nacional Certificada (ha)» in that year's edition, with no calculation

Limitations

Lines of production are the labels printed in the document (F.Mayores, F.Menores, H. Medicinales, Barbecho, Cereales, Praderas, Hortalizas, Semillas and Rec. Silvestre). The series publishes the region by line cells and leaves out the totals the document prints. In the 2023 edition the Metropolitan Region row prints a total of 3,942 ha while its nine cells add up to 2,607 ha: 1,335 ha appear in no cell. The ODEPA article of December 2024 reports 3,633 ha of farmland and 309 ha of wild harvesting for that region, which add up to 3,942, so the SAG row is missing a cell and the document does not say which one. The lab publishes the nine cells as printed; their sum understates the region's 2023 area by 1,335 ha, and the 3,942 ha total is not part of the series. Magallanes grassland for 2022 and 2023 is not published: a single cell holds almost all the area of the region and the line, the source does not report how many operators it covers, and the lab cannot assess its dominance. Since the series publishes no totals, that cell cannot be derived from them either. Cells the document leaves blank or marks with a dash are not published, because the document does not tell a zero from a missing value. The 2016 to 2019 editions publish area by region and by line in separate tables, with other groupings of lines, and are not part of this series.

Confidentiality

Area describes producers that the source does not allow to be counted per cell, so no minimum number of units applies. Cells the lab cannot assess for dominance are not published.

Revision policy

A new edition of the document enters as a new period. If SAG corrects an edition already published, the lab observes it again and the corrected figure replaces the previous one, keeping its history.
